A Bauchi-based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Alheri-YS Foundation on Saturday, led other organizations to organized a 5km Cancer of the breast awareness walk campaign with support from Bauchi State Government.
During the walk which commenced from the football field of the Destination Hotel through Yandoka road to Wuntin Market to CBN roundabout through Yakubun Bauchi road through the Government House and back to the football field amidst drumming, singing and dancing.
In her remarks, the Executive Director of Alheri-YS Foundation, Habiba Hassan, said, “It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 5th edition of the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Medical Outreach, an initiative of Alheri-YS Foundation.”
According to her, “This year, we are pleased to have other organisations partnering with us to strengthen our collective efforts in raising awareness and fighting breast cancer. Our theme, ‘Let Hope Light the Way,’ reminds us that even in the face of cancer, there is hope.”
Habiba Hassan added, “We chose this theme because we want people to understand that breast cancer is not a death sentence. Early detection, timely treatment, and proper support can make a significant difference.”
She explained that,”We are walking today not just to cover kilometres, but to raise awareness, break the silence and stigma surrounding breast cancer, encourage early detection, and remind our communities that seeking medical attention early can save lives.”
The ED appreciated the Bauchi State Government for its continued support for this campaign over the years just as She also appreciated the State Ministry of Health for its support and commitment to improving the health of our people.
“To all our partner organisations, thank you for joining us this year and supporting this important initiative. Your partnership strengthens our efforts and helps us take this message to more people,” She added.
She stressed, “As we begin this walk, let us remember that every conversation about breast cancer matters, every person educated matters, and every step towards early detection can help save a life. Let us walk for awareness, walk for hope, and walk to save lives.”
Others who spoke, streesed the importance of creating awareness of the dangers of breast cancer especially among women of productive age calling for regular test and early reports of early signs.
