The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has joined other senior police officers at the ongoing Inspector-General of Police Conference and Retreat in Imo State, as the Nigeria Police Force begins preparations for effective security management during the 2027 general elections.
The three-day conference, which began on September 21 and will end on September 23, 2026, is themed, “Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections.”
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement, saying the retreat was designed to strengthen police preparedness, coordination and professionalism in providing a safe and secure environment for electoral activities.
According to him, the Anambra Police Command, in line with the objectives of the retreat, has commenced a sustained peace advocacy and sensitisation campaign across the state.
As part of the campaign, the Command recently participated in a Peace Advocacy Walk involving police personnel and other stakeholders from the Eke-Awka Roundabout in Awka.
The exercise, which was held to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Peace, was also aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence, responsible citizenship, tolerance and non-violence among residents.
CP Oji Ama said the Command would intensify its engagement with political stakeholders, traditional and community leaders, youths, civil society organisations and other relevant groups in the coming days.
He urged all stakeholders to reject violence, intimidation, hate speech, destruction of property and other actions capable of threatening peace before, during and after the 2027 elections.
The Commissioner further assured residents that the police command would remain professional and impartial in the discharge of its responsibilities.
He said the Command was committed to protecting the rights and safety of all citizens while enforcing the law against anyone involved in criminal activities, regardless of status or political affiliation.
The Anambra Police Command consequently appealed to political actors, community leaders, youths and other stakeholders to support peaceful political participation, respect the rule of law and contribute to an environment conducive to free, peaceful and credible elections.
