Kano, Sept. 1, 2026 A Kano-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ibrahim Isah-Makwarari, has urged Muslims to go beyond Maulud celebration and apply the Prophet’s teachings in their daily lives.
The cleric urged them to specifically promote the viruses of the Holy Prophet of tolerance, humility, peace, love, sacrifice, and mutual respect for humanity.
Isah-Makwarari made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on the sidelines of Maulud activities, popularly known as “Takutaha” in Kano on Tuesday.
NAN reports that Takutaha is observed on the 19th of Rabi’u al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar, as part of Maulud activities.
It is marked with preaching, visitations, recitation of the Qur’an, prayers, and “Zikr” the remembrance of Allah, in honour of the Prophet (SAW).
Isah-Makwarari said people in Kano usually go around the city during the occasion reciting prayers and praising Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
He said the occasion provided an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
He said the fundamental purpose of the Maulud celebration was to express gratitude to Almighty Allah for sending Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to guide humanity on what He loves and what He has prohibited.
