Abuja, Sept. 1, 2026 (NAN) Mr Reno Omokri, Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mexico has urged Nigerians to re-elect President Bola Tinubu in 2027 following his administration’s measurable policy gains.
Omokri said his support for Tinubu was based on facts and policy outcomes rather than political considerations, noting that he defended the President even before his ambassadorial appointment.
He stated this in an interview with the City Boy Movement (CBM) Podcast, anchored by Mr O’tega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital and New Media, on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said the Tinubu’s administration had recorded progress in education, infrastructure, economic growth, security, manufacturing and financial stability, in spite of challenges arising from reforms.
“The reason we are spending trillions of naira today fighting insecurity is because, in the past, we did not spend billions fighting illiteracy,” he said.
Omokri identified Nigeria’s large out-of-school population as a major national challenge, saying investment in education remained critical to addressing insecurity and unemployment.
He said more than one million Nigerian students were currently benefiting from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing the student-loan scheme as a major intervention.
“If you have more than one million university students who are only in school because of NELFUND loans, that is significant because they will graduate, become employable, start businesses and expand the economy,” he said.
According to him, Nigeria’s economy has expanded by about 67 billion dollars in two years, while the country has strengthened its manufacturing capacity.
Omokri also cited improved financial stability and infrastructure development as reasons Nigerians should consider giving Tinubu another term.
He said major road projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, would reduce travel time, lower transportation costs and improve movement of goods.
“The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will reduce travel time from Calabar to Lagos significantly, while the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway will cut journey time and put more money and time back into Nigerians’ pockets,” he said.
The ambassador-designate said the administration had also improved the country’s security architecture in line with international best practices.
He said the Tinubu’s administration had demonstrated greater commitment to fighting terrorism, adding that several terrorists had been arrested, prosecuted, imprisoned or neutralised.
“Look at what was happening before May 2023: terrorists attacked the Kuje prison, military installations and strategic facilities. Under President Tinubu, those kinds of attacks have reduced significantly,” Omokri said.
He also commended the administration’s efforts to improve the business environment, facilitate company registration and deepen access to foreign exchange.
Omokri said the private sector, rather than government, remained the major engine of job creation, urging young Nigerians to explore emerging opportunities in entrepreneurship, manufacturing, agriculture and tourism.
“Government should not be expected to provide every job. Its responsibility is to create a conducive environment where businesses can thrive, investments can grow and young Nigerians can create opportunities for themselves,” he said.
He said the present administration’s economic reforms had also contributed to sustained quarterly GDP growth and trade surpluses, citing the latest NBS report showing 4.43 per cent growth in the second quarter of 2026.
Omokri urged Nigerians to assess Tinubu’s administration through measurable outcomes rather than political rhetoric, saying the President deserved another term to consolidate ongoing reforms.
“The best predictor of future events is past events. If President Tinubu won despite having fewer governors and facing serious challenges in 2023, his performance and stronger political base make his victory in 2027 even more likely.”
He said Nigerians should expect greater economic opportunities as ongoing reforms matured, stressing that sustainable development required continuity and policy consistency.
Omokri said Tinubu’s victory in 2027 would also provide an opportunity for the country to consolidate gains recorded in infrastructure, education, manufacturing, security and economic reforms.
He added that political differences should not prevent Nigerians from recognising policies that, in his assessment, were producing measurable improvements in the country. (NAN)
