Lafia, Aug. 31, 2026 (NAN) The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr Danladi Jatau, has directed the Standing Committees of the House to commence a three-week oversight of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to assess the implementation of the 2026 budget.
Jatau gave the directive while declaring the commencement of the oversight exercise during Monday’s plenary in Lafia.
He urged members of the House to carry out the constitutional responsibility diligently and without compromise, stressing the need to protect the integrity of the legislature.
“I want to call on you to ensure that you do a thorough job in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The Constitution has empowered us to oversight the activities of MDAs and other activities in the state.
“We are the ones that approved the budget, so I urge you to ensure that the 2026 budget is strictly implemented as approved,” he said.
The speaker reminded the lawmakers that the exercise was aimed at ensuring accountability and compliance with approved budgetary provisions by government agencies.
Jatau said the oversight exercise was not intended to witch-hunt any individual or organisation, but to ensure that government agencies operated within their approved budgetary provisions.
“This is not a witch-hunt exercise, but we want to ensure that MDAs adhere strictly to their budgetary provisions,” he said.
He further advised the lawmakers to shun compromise in the discharge of their duties, saying this would help protect the integrity and credibility of the House.
Jatau also called on the MDAs to give maximum support and cooperation to the Standing Committees to enable them to successfully carry out the oversight exercise.
He urged the committees to ensure that the 2026 budget was implemented in accordance with the provisions approved by the House. (NAN)
