The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has approved the appointment of Dr. Usman Yusuf Dutse as the Deputy Rector of the Polytechnic, with effect from 1st September 2026.
The approval was granted at the 112th Sitting of the Governing Council, bringing to a successful conclusion the process that commenced with the election of Dr. Dutse by the Academic Board of the Polytechnic.
Dr. Dutse emerged as the Deputy Rector-elect following a meeting of the Academic Board held at the 510 Hall on Friday, 3rd July 2026 as the election was conducted by open secret ballot in line with the established procedures of the institution.
Following a transparent and orderly voting exercise, Dr. Dutse secured the majority of votes cast by members of the Academic Board and emerged as the Deputy Rector-elect, subject to the final approval of the Governing Council.
The election was conducted ahead of the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing Deputy Rector, Dr. Dalhatu Sa’idu Abubakar, which comes to an end at the close of August 2026, thereby ensuring a smooth leadership transition and the continuity of effective administration at the Polytechnic.
Dr. Dutse brings to his new office, a wealth of experience in academic administration, institutional governance and staff leadership.
Before his appointment as Deputy Rector, he served as Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance and also held several strategic positions within the Polytechnic, including Dean of the School of Business Studies and Head of the Department of Business Administration and Management.
An accomplished staff leader, Dr. Dutse is a former Chapter Chairman and former National President of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), reflecting his extensive experience in staff representation, leadership and institutional governance.
Meanwhile, Management of the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has approved the appointment of two Directors to take charge of important Directorates in the institution.
Under the new appointments, Dr. Hamisu Idi has been appointed as Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance.
Dr. Idi, a Statistician, was until his appointment the Director of the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).
Similarly, Arc. Dr. Dauda Ali has been appointed Director of the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).
An Architect and experienced academic, Dr. Ali is a former Head of the Department of Architectural Technology and was, until his latest appointment, the Deputy Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance.
The appointments are expected to further strengthen the leadership and administrative capacity of the Polytechnic, particularly in the critical areas of academic planning, quality assurance and students’ industrial work experience.
The Rector, Alh. Sani Usman, has congratulated the new Deputy Rector and the newly appointed Directors, expressing confidence in their capacity to contribute meaningfully to the continued growth and development of the institution.
