Alkaleri (Bauchi), Aug. 24, 2026 (NAN) The Bauchi state government has called for the resumption of oil and gas exploration at the Kolmani Integrated Development Project.
Mr Muhammad Maiwada, Commissioner for Natural Resources, stated this on Monday during a facility tour of the project by a team of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
The visitation team was led by the Chairman of the commission, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu.
Oil exploration activities had been suspended at the site following delays after its inauguration in 2022 by late President Muhammadu Buhari.
Maiwada said the call was imperative to remobilise and resume crude oil exploration activities at the site, located along the Bauchi – Gombe State border.
He said that reviving the Kolmani project would provide significant economic benefits to the state through investment and employment opportunities, as well as boost its revenue base.
The commissioner highlighted that the development of the oil field would encourage economic diversification for sustainable development in the North-East region.
Maiwada commended the federal government over the implementation of viable programmes aimed at encouraging effective utilisation of Nigeria’s oil, gas and natural resources.
Responding, Shehu said the team would transmit its findings to the government for further actions on the project.
He described the project as important in view of its contribution to the revenue generation, fiscal interest and economic development of the country.
The chairman said the visit enabled the commission to obtain first-hand information on issues surrounding the project.
He said the team also inspected facilities at the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy, Alkaleri. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
