Oyebanji presents staff of office to Owa of Oke-Ako after 25-year of dispute

Ikole-Ekiti (Ekiti) Aug. 24, 2026(NAN) Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti on Monday presented staff of office to Oba Bamidele Oni, the new Owa of Oke-Ako, in Ikole Local Government Area, after 25 years of chieftaincy dispute.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the stool became vacant following the demise of Oba Omotayo Ogunbiyi, from Oke Idi Osan Ruling House, on Dec. 10, 2000.
Oyebanji, represented by his deputy, Mrs Monisade Afuye, congratulated the traditional ruler and the town for overcoming the difficulties witnessed during the vacancy of the seat.
He appealed to other contestants and the community to work with the new traditional ruler to speed up development of the town.
“I want you to work with Kabiyesi to restore the glory of Oke Ako. With all of you working together as a team, this town will become prosperous, progressive and successful.
“Kindly do all within your powers to cooperate with him for the benefit of all of you,” Oyebanji said.
In his response, Oba Oni commended the state government, kingmakers and royal families for eventually acceding to the request to install a new traditional ruler in the town, promising to justify the confidence reposed in him.
The traditional ruler promised to work assiduously to unite and develop the community, by partnering with all stakeholders, regardless of past grievances, to lift the town to a phase of economic, political and social prosperity.
Oba Oni appealed to well meaning indigenes of the town to collaborate with him to achieve his mission and vision of making Oke Ako an environment of peace, development and unity. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
