The Magajin Gari’s horse emerged winner of the maiden horse racing competition organised by the Jama’a Emirate in Kaduna State, with 16 horses competing in the event held in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jama’a Local Government Area, before a large crowd of spectators.
The competition was organised to revive the traditional sport of horse racing and promote the cultural heritage of the Jama’a Emirate.
Speaking after the competition, the Emir of Jama’a, Alhaji Muhammadu Isa Muhammadu II, expressed delight over the successful hosting of the maiden event in a peaceful atmosphere. Speaking on behalf of the Emir, the Ciroman Jama’a, Alhaji Kabiru Tanko, commended the organisers and called on sons and daughters of the emirate to continue supporting the initiative to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of horse racing while providing entertainment for the people.
The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Danmadamin Jama’a, Alhaji Aminu Isa Muhammadu, also appreciated the participants, security agencies and members of the public for their cooperation, which ensured the successful conduct of the competition.
The organiser of the event, Gado da Masun Jama’a, Alhaji Ibrahim Alake Ahmadu, praised the Ciroman Jama’a, Alhaji Kabiru Tanko, for donating N10,000 each to the 11 riders who reached the quarter-final stage of the competition.
He also commended Hon. Isiyaka Abdu Ladan for donating N20,000 to the overall winner and N10,000 each to the second and third-place finishers. He further acknowledged the contribution of Sarkin Samarin Jama’a, Mudi Shafi’u Tahir, who donated the trophies presented to the winners.
At the end of the competition, the overall winner received a bicycle as the star prize, while the second and third-place winners were awarded scholarships covering a one-year scholarship covering their school fees.
Speaking with journalists after receiving their prizes, the winners expressed gratitude for the recognition and encouraged other participants to remain committed and continue striving for excellence in future competitions.
