Christian in Politics engages stakeholders, demands competent leaders with biblical values

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) His Eminence, Most Rev. Dr. Daniel Okoh, has encouraged sustained various engagements in nation-building beyond partisan politics.

He made the remarks when a delegation of Christian in Politics (CiP) led by its National Coordinator, Dr. Hassana Shallangwa paid him an advocacy in visit in Abuja.

Discussions with Most Rev. Okoh centred on unity of the Church, moral responsibility in governance, and pathways for joint community development.

The CAN President urged CiP to come with a proposal on area of partnership and expressed joy that the organisation was filling the gap since CAN has limited engagement in politics.

Most Rev. Okoh encouraged members of CiP to be prayerful in the task ahead.

Dr. Shallangwa emphasized CiP’s mission to raise and support leaders who will influence policy with biblical values, competence, and excellence.

According to her, CiP is engaging with various leaders of the society to build bridges for a Nigeria founded on truth, justice, and service.

The CiP also commenced a series of familiarization and courtesy visits to key national institutions as part of its stakeholder engagement drive for robust nation-building.

The CiP delegation also visited His Royal Majesty King Bubaraye Dakolo, Agada IV, Chairman of the Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, and the State’s Council of Traditional Rulers where Dr. Shallangwa emphasized the critical role of traditional institutions in peacebuilding, cultural preservation, and grassroots development.

King Bubaraye Dakolo Agada IV, commended the initiative and offered fatherly counsel, encouraging CiP to continue advancing its noble cause for the enrichment of God’s Kingdom and the development of society.

Both sides agreed to collaborate on future initiatives that uplift communities while respecting heritage and values.

The CiP delegation paid a courtesy visit to former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, where discussions focused on ethical leadership, legislative support for good governance, and the role of faith-driven citizens in public service.

Rt. Hon. Dogara commended the organisation for its discipline and commitment to raising leaders with integrity.

In an interview with journalists, Dr. Shallangwa pointed out that the mandate of the organisation is raising righteous leaders to transform Nigeria through godly governance, justice, and unity.

She said without much equivocation, CiP has laboured to build men with capacity and positioned godly men and women for leadership as a generational token.

The National Coordinator stressed that collectively, these engagements affirmed the philosophy that sustainable societal progress emerges when faith, leadership, and civic participation work in harmonious partnership.

CiP is a non-partisan platform established to mobilize, equip, and position Christians of integrity for active participation in politics, governance, and public policy in Nigeria. Its mandate is to promote righteousness, justice, and accountability in public life, in line with civic responsibility and Christian traditions.
