FRCN Journalist Sandra Chukwugekwu Receives 2026 Outstanding Achievement Award

Senior broadcast journalist and Diplomatic Editor with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Comrade Sandra Chukwugekwu, has been honoured with the 2026 Outstanding Achievement Award by All Saints Catholic Church, Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, in recognition of her contributions to journalism, humanity and national development.

The award was formally presented during the Parish Laity Council Funfair held on Sunday, 21 June 2026, at All Saints Catholic Church, Zone 5, Dutse Alhaji, Abuja.

The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Festus Okoye, described the honour as a “well deserved nomination” for her “humongous contributions to the Church, humanity and Nigeria.”

Presenting the award, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Emmanuel Inja, said the recognition was in appreciation of Comrade Chukwugekwu’s consistency in promoting truth, accountability and responsible journalism in Nigeria.

He noted that her work in broadcast journalism has continued to highlight key issues in governance, diplomacy, development and public interest reporting, adding that she has distinguished herself as a voice of professionalism in the media space.

Comrade Chukwugekwu, Manager News, who currently serves as Diplomatic Editor at FRCN and anchors the current affairs programme Africa This Week, was described by organisers as a journalist whose work reflects integrity, service and commitment to national development.

Speaking after receiving the award, Comrade Chukwugekwu expressed gratitude to the church for the recognition, describing it as both humbling and a call to greater responsibility.

“I am sincerely grateful to All Saints Catholic Church for this honour. It is deeply humbling and I do not take it for granted. This award is a reminder to continue to serve with even greater dedication, integrity and commitment to responsible journalism,” she said.

She pledged to remain committed to ethical journalism and public service broadcasting, noting that the recognition would further strengthen her resolve to contribute meaningfully to society.

Comrade Chukwugekwu dedicated the award to God, her family, mentors and colleagues in the media industry, acknowledging their support throughout her professional journey.

The ceremony was attended by parishioners, family members, media professionals and guests, and featured prayers, goodwill messages and commendations for outstanding individuals honoured at the event.

Organisers said the Outstanding Achievement Award is part of efforts by the parish to recognise individuals who have made significant contributions to the Church, society and national development through service and professional excellence.
