The Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umaru Radda, has called on media influencers, bloggers, and online content creators to exercise responsibility in reporting security-related issues, emphasizing their critical role in supporting ongoing efforts to address insecurity in the state.
Speaking to journalists after a series of engagements at the Government House, Katsina, with Islamic clerics and key stakeholders, where Governor disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to strengthen surveillance and enhance security operations across vulnerable areas.
Governor Radda warned against the circulation of distressing videos involving victims of kidnapping, noting that such content deepens the trauma of affected families and may interfere with security operations.
He further cautioned against situations where individuals share footage of abducted persons, including cases involving parents or close relatives, describing such actions as unethical and counterproductive to collective security efforts.
“I want to call on media influencers and bloggers to play a responsible role in tackling insecurity. They have a key part to play, but some misuse their platforms by sharing disturbing videos of victims while in captivity, which is not helpful to our collective efforts,” the Governor said.
The Governor stressed that responsible reporting remains essential in strengthening security operations, safeguarding victims’ dignity, and supporting affected families.
