It was a carnival sort of environment at Haliru Abdu Multipurpose Stadium, Birnin Kebbi, where stakeholders and thousands of the All Progressive Congress (APC) members convergded for the affirmation of Comrade Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State as the candidate of the party for 2027 general elections.
The delegation of thousands of party faithfuls from the 21 local governments of the state were joined by hundreds of major stakeholders believed to have maintained their absolute confidence on Comrade Governor Idris, made the historic ceremony a family affair.
The delegation from the National Secretariat of the party to supervise the conduct of the exercise led by the former Deputy Alhaji Abdulmalik Muhammad Governor of Bauchi state was apparently overwhelmed by the uncommon unity of genuine purpose.
Performing the duty of his committee, Abdulmalik declared that “considering the calibre of politicians we have seen and the marmount crowd of party loyalist, there appears an undisputable concensus for the continuity of Comrade Governor Nasir Idris in view of the remarkable development achieved in all sectors ”
As the stipulated rules for the affirmation demands and for the purpose of formality, the chairman asked, and the congregation massively, in a resounding ovation affirmed and endosed Comrade Nasir Idris as the party’s governorship candidate for2027 general elections, declaring that “one good term deserves another ”
Apart from the delegation of thousands of party faithfuls that turned out, prominent stakeholders in attendance included the three previous state governors, serving and former members of the National Assembly, former and serving ministers, Chief executives of federal and state boards and commissions, serving and former, servin and former speakers and members of the state House of Assembly.
Representatives of organised trade unions, youths and women associations, ethnic, religious, and cultural organisations believed to have in many ways benefited from Governor Nasir Idris’s administration.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Nasir Idris expressed profound gratitude to Allah for granting him sound health and wisdom to selflessly serve the people and achieve what was being celebrated.
He further expressed appreciation to all the members of the party whose cooperation facilitated the success of the concensus reached during the National Assembly primaries.
“The presence of both elected and appointed political leaders since the advent of the present democratic dispensation in 1999 underscores their acknowledgement of my performance and preference for the continuity of my administration”
Governor Idris said based on the conviction of the people of Kebbi State “that one team deserves another,” he will redouble his efforts in the sustainance of socio-economic development programmes and projects in order to further justify the confidence reposed in him.
Interestingly, there appears to be increasing political awareness among Nigerians on the determining factors being considered in persons aspiring for elective positions. Among others included track record of integrity and verifiable record of community impactful developmental projects and provision of employment opportunities.
Comrade Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State was known for his philanthropic gestures and humanitarian services to communities long before he ventured into partisan politics, the experiences that guided his decision making and implementation of results oriented governance.
The achievements recorded in infrastructure and socio-economic development so far believed to be unprecedented in the history of the state development achieved clearly demonstrated his capacity and determination to change the narrative of the development of the state.
