Prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has criticized some Christian intellectuals for supporting foreign interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs, describing their actions as “unpatriotic, shameful, and obnoxious.”

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Sheikh Gumi said he had assumed that, given the South’s advancement in Western education compared to the North, southern Nigerians would show stronger patriotism and independence from Western influence.

However, he expressed disappointment over what he termed their “slave mentality” toward the West in reaction to recent threats by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to him, Nigeria’s inter communal hostilities, herders farmers conflicts, and indigenous, versus settlers clashes are products of poverty, poor education, moral decay, and bad governance ,not religion.

He condemned the act of “inviting a liar, a genocidal supporter, a racist, a supremacist, a colonist” to interfere on behalf of Christians in Nigeria, saying such behavior was divisive and dangerous to national sovereignty.

“Inviting a liar, a genocidal supporter, a racist, a supremacist, a colonist to interfere on the side of Christians specifically is unpatriotic, shameful, and obnoxious,” Gumi wrote. “Can’t they see that the fight will take another dimension?”

The cleric questioned whether such attitudes stemmed from theological bias, saying, “Is it their theological construct that makes them so naive and hateful? Unfortunately, the common denominator of these unpatriotic individuals is Islamophobia.”

Sheikh Gumi, however, commended most Christians in the country, describing them as “good Samaritans living peacefully with their Muslim countrymen.”

He ended his post with a prayer, writing, “May Allah protect us all from the Antichrist (Dajjal the liar). Amin.” (NAN)
