NIGERIA’S QUEST FOR PEACE: A CALL FOR DIPLOMACY AMIDST GLOBAL TENSIONS

The Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) has extended its congratulations to the newly appointed Service Chiefs, General Olufemi Oluyede, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas, and Air Marshal S.K. Aneke, praising their distinction, impeccable service records, and leadership capacity. As Nigeria navigates its security challenges, the Peace Corps emphasizes the importance of transparency, accountability, and professionalism in tackling these issues

The National Commandant of the PCN, Dr. Dickson Akoh, made a congratulatory statement at a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, praising the appointment of new Service Chiefs by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He described the appointments as “well-deserved,” recognizing their distinguished service records and leadership capacity.

Dr. Akoh emphasized the PCN’s commitment to supporting the new leadership, particularly in implementing their non-kinetic, youth-centric strategy to complement national security efforts. He also urged President Donald Trump to opt for diplomacy over military force in addressing security concerns in Nigeria,

warning that military intervention could escalate violence and destabilize communities .

The PCN appeals to the United Nations to intervene and mediate the rising tensions between the US and Nigeria, emphasizing the need for collaborative support and non-kinetic approaches. They advocate for investments in job creation, education, and peace-building programs as a more sustainable path to peace .
