The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State has cautioned former Governor Nasir El-Rufai against alleged attempts to hijack the party’s structure in the state.
The warning is contained in a statement issued at a press conference on Monday in Kaduna, and read by the former state chairman and leader of the party, Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha.
Mustapha said El-Rufai had never registered as a member of the ADC in his ward, but was allegedly aligning with remnants of his former political structure in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and other groups to infiltrate the ADC.
He said the move was aimed at creating a faction within the party to serve the former governor’s personal political interest.
According to him, the ADC remains open to all Nigerians who share its values and principles, but will not allow itself to be used as a political vehicle for individual ambition.
He said the party encouraged healthy aspirations and internal democracy, but warned that acts capable of causing disunity would not be tolerated.
The party called on El-Rufai to desist from activities capable of undermining the integrity and cohesion of the ADC in the state.
Mustapha reaffirmed the party’s support for its National Chairman, Sen. David Mark, and restated its commitment to building a strong, inclusive and people-oriented political platform.
