In a landmark ruling, the Court of Appeal in Abuja has commanded former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello, to appear before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court for arraignment. This move paves the way for Bello’s prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Appeal Court Justices unanimously agreed that the Kogi State High Court’s decision to free Bello from EFCC’s prosecution was “scandalous” and an abuse of power. The court is now holding Bello accountable for his actions.
In a scathing judgment, the Court of Appeal has slammed the door shut on Yahaya Bello’s attempt to evade justice. The former Kogi State governor’s clever ploy to use a fundamental rights case to shield himself from criminal prosecution has been EXPOSED and OVERTURNED.
The Appeal Court Justices minced no words, declaring that the trial court’s decision was a blatant attempt to “shield the respondent from his criminal trial.” They cited a previous ruling, EFCC vs Yahaya Bello, to drive home the point that no court can interfere with a law enforcement agency’s statutory duties.
In a decisive blow, the Justices upheld the EFCC’s appeal, quashed the fundamental rights shield, and ORDERED Yahaya Bello to appear in court for arraignment. The message is clear: no one is above the law. Bello must face the music!”
