Journalism Community Mourns the Loss of Mrs. Chinelo Helen Edeh, Mother of Renowned Journalist Comrade Sandra Udeike

Comrade Sandra Amogechukwu Udeike, a trailblazing journalist and the first female Chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Journalist, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Headquarters Chapel, has announced the passing of her beloved mother, Mrs. Chinelo Helen Edeh.
Mrs. Edeh, a matriarch and pillar of the family, died on July 30, 2024, at the age of 76, after a brief illness at her residence in Enugu State.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a legacy of love, kindness, and warmth that will be deeply missed.
Comrade Udeike and her family mourn the loss of an extraordinary woman who touched the lives of everyone she met. Her memory will be cherished and celebrated in the days to come.
The information was contained in a statement by Miss Chinwendu Nweke, and made available to journalists in Abuja.
The statement explains that Mr. Emmanuel Chukwuebuka Edeh on behalf of the family has announced details of the burial to include a Christian Wake on the 9th of September at her resident, 12 Ejindu Street, Coal Camp, another Wake will take place on 20th September, at her home, Edeagu Family Obodo-ukpa Obe in Nkanu-West Local Government Area, Enugu State.
While lying in state and Interment follows immediately after a requiem Mass at same venue.
The statement explained that Mrs. Helen Edeh was survived by four children: Mrs. Charity Ifeoma Egbo, Mrs. Sandra Amogechukwu Udeike, Mrs. Maryann Chiebonam Elochukwu Anene and Mr. Emmanuel Chukwuebuka Edeh. Thirteen grandchildren and six great-grand children.
The statement also stated that she was survived by a brother, Mr. Joseph Chukwuowo and two elder sisters: Mrs. Grace Nweke Arum and Mrs. Josephine nwakaego Chinweike.
Mrs. Chinelo Helen Edeh was born to the family of Umo-Owoagu in Ndi-agu Umuikeowo, in 1948 to Mr. Chukwuowo Agu and Mrs. Ozhieme Ngene. Mrs. Chinelo Helen got married to a businessman, an only son of his parents, Mr. Elias Nwekeoffor Edeagu of Obodo-Ukpa, Obe in Nkanu-West Local Government of Enugu State. Mr. Nwekeoffor Edeagu died in the year 2001 during a brief illness. This is after the loss of their first child, Sunday Edeh.
After the demise of her husband, Mrs. Chinelo Helen singlehandedly saw all her five children through school. Although her eldest son, Elder Christian Edeh died in 2015 through a ghastly motor accident. The death of her son almost broke her, but, she picked up the pieces from the loss and continued to serve God in all ramifications.
Mrs. Helen was known for her resilience, hardwork, determination and God fearing attributes. She was a staunch member of Catholic Church and belonged to many organizations and Associations at Saint Patrick’s Parish, Ogbete Enugu.
In an interview, Mrs. Sandra Udeike described her late mother as a selfless, cheerful, dedicated and resourceful person who sort for the interest of others and continually prayed for the success of her children and her entire family. Mrs. Udeike stated that although she had lost a rare gem, heaven have gained a saint and prayed that her soul rest at the bossom of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The statement prayed the Almighty God to rest her gentle soul and grant her family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
