ICT: Nasarawa Govt partners firm to train civil servants

Nasarawa State Government in collaboration with Technology for Social Change and Development Initiative (Tech4Dev), a Lagos based  ICT firm, has begun training of 270 civil servants in the state to enhance their performances.
Mr Abari Aboki, the state Head of Civil Service, inaugurated  the training exercise  on Thursday in Lafia.
Aboki said that the exercise  was geared towards producing master trainers who would in turn step down the training to other workers in the state.
He explained that the 12 weeks  training was part of the partnership between the state and Tech4Dev to train civil servants in order to bridge the digital gap.
“There is need for civil servants to move ahead of time to become a specialist, because I have come to realise that computer has taken virtually every aspect of national endeavour and life.
“I believe that this 12 weeks training will take the civil servants in the state to the next level.
‘The time has come for all of us to ensure that we are in tune  with globally practices,” he said.
Aboki  commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for giving civil servants in the state the  opportunity to be at par with their counterparts in other climes in terms of ICT knowledge and skills.
He charged the participants to maximise the privilege of the training in order to become more efficient in carrying out their jobs.
Also, Shehu Ibrahim, Director- General of the state’s Bureau for Information and Communication Technology, applauded Gov Sule the support and encouragement in ensuring that ICT becomes a key driver of the State’s economy.
Ibrahim noted that the training was in furtherance of the state government’s goal of  providing  digital skills to its workers to enhance their performances.
“Our state is at the verge of becoming the third in the country to develop an ICT master plan in conjunction with the National Information Technology Development Agency.
“Digital economy is the future and all of us have a very big part to play in the development of the  economy and shaping those that will drive it,” he said.
Mr Michael John, Senior Programme Manager, Tech4Dev, appreciated the state governent for the partnership assuring that the training would enhance the capacity of civil servants for greater productivity.
