)Sifan Hassan completed the women’s distance double at the Olympics when she added 10,000 metres gold to that from the 5,000m for a third medal overall at the Tokyo Games.
The Dutch star was unstoppable on the home straight for victory in 29 minutes 55.32 seconds.
She also competed over 1,500m and won a bronze there —— running 24.5km in all over the three distances during the Games.
Bahrain’s Kalkidan Gezahegne took the silver medal in 29:56.18 minutes.
World record-holder Letesenbet Gidey of Ethiopia had dominated the race from the front until the final turn when she ran out of steam.
She had to settle for the bronze medal in 30:01.72 minutes.
Hassan, who won the 1,500m and 10,000m at the 2019 world championships, emulated Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba who got the distance double 2008 in Beijing.
