Muktar Betara, House of Representatives member for Biu, Bayo, kwaya Kusar and Shani Federal Constituencies of Borno, has donated more foodstuff to vulnerable persons in his constituents.
The piece of information about the distribution was made available by the lawmaker’s Spokesperson, Aishatu Ibrahim, on Friday.
Ibrahim, while giving update on the ward to ward distribution to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna, said that the gesture was in addition to the 12,600 bags of rice and semolina distributed to the needy and vulnerable members of the constituents, which commenced on Thursday.
She said “having realised the huge number of vulnerable persons in the constituents, Hon. Muktar Betara magnanimously ordered for additional foodstuff comprising 8,100 bags of rice and 6,700 bags of semolina for distribution to the people.
“This brings the total to 14,400 bags of 25kg rice and 13,000 bags of semolina, which were all supplied through the 42 wards spread across the constituencies for onward transmission to polling units for easy identification of true beneficiaries.
“In addition, the honourable member said each beneficiary should be given N2,000 as he or she collects the foodstuff.”
She said that the lawmaker had expressed gratitude to the way and manner the distribution was handled.
NAN recalls that the foodstuff distribution started on Thursday throughout the constituency with the strict warning from the member that only the vulnerable should be considered, as he asked those who are not in dire need to be patient and wait for next time.
NAN also reports that the distribution is an annual exercise by Betara.
