Center LSD graduans to sensitise over 300 boys, girls on mensural hygiene

Graduans of African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD) on Tuesday said they will train no fewer than 300 girls and boys in the FCT on mensural management and distribute hygiene materials.
The 18th set of graduans which are of group two of the Global Assets Team (GAT) made this known in a statement issued by Thoughtful Leader of the class, Amb. Chibuzo Okereke in Abuja.
Okereke said that the event will hold on Thursday, May 25 at the Government Secondary School Jabi 1, Abuja at 10 a.m
The group leader said that the event will coincides with International Menstrual Hygiene Day 2023 being celebrated under the theme: “Making Menstruation a Normal Fact of Life by 2030.
Okereke said that the training and distribution of hygiene materials is also a part of the centre’s Community Development Projects (CDPs) which a requirement for graduation.
He stated that the training will target young adolescent girls and boys between the ages of 14 to 15 years who are about to or have just started experiencing menstrual bleeding and other changes in their body system.
Okereke said that the project will contribute significantly to the global efforts at normalising menstruation as a natural fact of life by 2030 as well as reinforce the Center LSD’s vision of raising transformational leaders who are problem solvers and nation builders.
“The project would provide a platform for both young girls and boys to learn that menstruation is a natural phenomenon, bridge the knowledge gap and gain basic insight into the physical realities of menstruation and menstrual hygiene management techniques.
“The project will directly impact over 300 adolescent girls and boys who will gain practical insights into the management of menstruation and healthy menstrual hygiene practices.
“Participating girls will get a pack of sanitary pads each, while the boys will go home with soaps,” he said.
Okeke said that the graduans will also distribute basic and simplified knowledge pamphlets on the management of menstruation to the students.
He said that it is expectation that participants at the end of the campaign would become more confident, comfortable and display excellent menstrual hygiene management skills during menstruation.
He said that that participants are expected and be able to transfer these skills to help other girls with the menstrual hygiene knowledge gap.
The thoughtful leader said that the graduans will conduct pre and post-evaluation exercises to test the degree of impact made.
