Alumni president urges alumnus to give back to alma mater

The International Studies Alumni Association, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria has urged alumnus of the university to create a synergy of giving back to their alma mater, in order to motivate the lecturers and students.

 

Its Interim National President, Ambassador Muntari Kaita made the appeal, when he led a delegation of the national executive members on a visit to ABU Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Bala in Zaria.

Kaita said: “Giving back to the university is special way to show appreciation to the institution that has contributed to our development physically, academically, and professionally.”

“We still remember the knowledge and instructions that have been inculcated in us, as well as the social interactions and brotherhood we enjoyed on the University’s campuses,” he said.

He said the association was established last year with the aim of encouraging close relationship between the university authorities, its staff and students, and particularly to support the Department of Political Science and International Studies.

In so doing, the president disclosed that the association had recently donated hundreds of books and other literary works to the department’s library.

Ambassador Kaita also pledged the alumnus desire to acquire a new digital network server for the department’s e-library to boost online studies.

He said that the association also aimed to organise from time to time, public lectures, annual dinners, and other activities for the articulation of national issues and to share experiences with the lecturers and students.

The president further condoled the university community on the recent demise of its former Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Mahdi.

In his remarks, Professor Bala called for more alumni-university collaborations
to boost the development and advancement of the institution.

The VC, who was represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Ahmad Doko, said the university has resuscitated its Endowment Foundation to secure supports and contributions for its developmental projects and programmes.

He equally emphasised the need for more engagement by various departmental alumni associations and the national alumni association to enhance the capacity of the university.

The vice-chancellor, therefore, commended the association for its initiatives and his appointment as Honourary Patron.

The delegation also visited the Department of Political Science and International Studies, and held an interactive seesion with Head of the Department, Dr. Rahanatu Lawal and the lecturers.

The delegation included the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Ambassador Sani Bako, Alhaji Suleiman Halliru, Alhaji Kabiru Hussaini, the interim National Secretary-General and Alhaji Abdullahi Shuaibu, the interim National Public Relations Officer.
