Today at 4pm local time,
Les Bleus (France 🇫🇷 ) will lock horns with La Albicelestes (Argentina 🇦🇷) in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final to decide who lifts the Jules Rimet Trophy 🏆.
Both countries are bidding for their third World Cup title with the French having the chance to become the first back-to-back champions since Brazil in 1962.
The two national teams are also gearing up for what should be an epic finale in Doha, Qatar as the tournament reaches its grand conclusion for the 64th and last match.
Questions: Will France defend the World Cup trophy they won in 2018 in Russia? or will Lionel Messi (Argentina) cement himself as the true GOAT (The Greatest Of All Time) in his last tournament?
The French side are entering the contest having topped Group D, which includes wins over Australia and Denmark before losing to Tunisia in the group finale with its B-team (reserves).
On the other hand, the Argentines bounced back after losing to Saudi Arabia in the opener and ended up winning Group C.
France then went on to eliminate Poland, England and Morocco en route to the final as Argentina kicked out Australia, the Netherlands and Croatia.
A background on the trophy-
Its founder, Jules Rimet was a French football administrator who was the 3rd President of FIFA, serving from 1921 to 1954. He was FIFA’s longest-serving president, in office for 33 years.
On Rimet’s initiative, the first FIFA World Cup was held in 1930. The World Cup was named in his honour (The Jules Rimet Trophy).
The next World Cup will be held in 2026 across USA, Canada and Mexico cities, and the qualifying countries will be expanded to 48 teams.
Africa will have at least nine teams up from five at present.
