A group under the aegis of G-9 Benue South Progressives Forum, is set to commence massive mobilisation for the Tinubu/ Shettima presidency come 2023.
The chairman of the group, Chief Johnson Agada, who alleged non-inclusion of Benue South in power sharing arrangements in the last 42 years, disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday, shortly after the group’s meeting held in Abuja.
Agada explained that members of the group met to appraise issues concerning the progress and development of the G-9 and to strategise on the mobilisation of voters for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
The G-9 Chairman also dispelled rumours alleging the group’s alliance with the Peoples Democratic party (PDP), or its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
According to him, such malicious rumours are being peddled by some unpatriotic and expelled members of the G-9.
He said some of the group’s executive members were found wanting, following their questionable characters and deviant social behaviours, and so were expelled from the G-9.
He also explained why members of the group rejected appointments into the state’s campaign council.
Agada said the APC governorship candidate had undermined the Idoma people of Benue South by not showing up for negotiations as agreed during his first meeting with the group.
”We are not fools. We had a meeting with the APC Governorship Candidate, Rv. Father Hyacinth Alia, where we gave him conditions on behalf of the people of Zone C.
”He promised to return to us after going through the conditions.
“But he never came; then we suddenly saw some of our names on a skewed statement as members of the State’s Campaign Council.
“We had to write immediately to reject and counter such appointments. He undermined our strength and our quest for unity and cohesion.”
Also in his reaction, top stakeholder of the group and Chieftain of the APC, Prof. Dickson Akoh, said the group was solidly behind the candidacy of Tinubu and would work for the success of his election.
Akoh who was recently appointed into the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council as its Assistant Director (North Central), maintained that those expelled from the group were the ones peddling such negative stories about the group.
He however, warned that since the group was duly registered with the relevant authorities and had its documents intact, including patent rights to the name and logo of the group, anyone caught impersonating the group would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
On his part, Publicity Secretary of the group, Mr Oche Emmanuel, said the G-9 would unravel anyone behind any dubious activity carried out in the name of the group.
In separate goodwill messages via telephone, an APC Chieftain, Sen. Ameh Ebute and former Secretary of Okpokwu Local Government Council of Benue, Mrs Theresa Ikwue, reiterated their commitment to the G-9 and urged members to remain steadfast in the struggle for the Zone C people.
Aluta News reports that notable people attended the meeting, including former APC Chairman in the state, Abba Yaro, immediate past Nigerian envoy to Algeria, Amb. Mabdul Mohammed, former House of Representatives member, Bennard Ochepa, and former State House of Assembly member, Adams Okloho.
Others included; former Chairman, Okpokwu LGA, Anne Itodo, former Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Women Leader, FCT, Mrs Kate Ijogi, a former manager with Shell Petroleum, Mr Austin Oleho, immediate past Benue State APC Legal Adviser, Omale Omale.
