The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Niger, Malam Umar Bago, on Saturday distributed farming inputs to no fewer than 500 youths in the state.
Bago said “the empowerment is meant to increase the productivity and economic stability in the state”.
“The move is also to encourage the youths to embrace farming so as to ensure massive food production in the state.
“Farming is the new oil that needs to be embraced by all, especially youth as this material time.
“It has been a ritual for the last seven years. We have consistently assisted the farmers with inputs and cash to empower them.”
He explained that the distribution cut across farmers in the 25 local government areas of the state.
Bago, who is representing Chachanga Federal Constituency, told the people that the farmers were selected from their various associations and they were not political farmers or brought to him by any politician.
He urged the beneficiaries not to sell the inputs, adding that the N20,000 cash given to each of them was to assist them.
The state APC Chairman, Haliru Jikantoro, said the “empowerment would enhance the economic capacity of the beneficiaries and trickle down the ladder to improve agriculture production in the state”.
He commended Bago for the initiative, saying “I am glad that he is doing this.
“This is an indication that he will do more of this gesture to enhance and improve the economic stability of the state and the country after 2023”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bago, distributed 500 sprayers, 500 bags of rice and maize seedlings, 200 pumping machines, 400 sprayers and N10 million cash to all the beneficiaries across the 25 local government areas of the state.
