Labour Perm. Sec. advises public servants on self-improvement

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Dr Yerima Tarfa, has advised public servants to engage in continuous self-improvement for competence and job performance.

Tarfa gave the advice while declaring open the induction training for new employees of the ministry on Friday in Abuja.

He said that self-improvement was integral to achieving organisational success and would aid civil servants achieved efficient and effective public service delivery.

He assured the officers that self-improvement would improve their competence and job performance which would contribute to achieving the mandate of the ministry and the overall agenda of the Federal Government.

According to Tarfa, Nigeria’s Public Service of today is anchored on continuous improvement and excellent service delivery, among other hallmarks.

Tarfa, therefore, urged the newly employees to take advantage of the Leadership Enhancement and Development Programmes for civil servants, implemented by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.

He added that the newly employees taking the advantage would help broaden their knowledge and improve their service delivery.

Tarfa also said that the induction training was for the purpose of instructing the new employees on the structure, procedures, and organisational culture of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, among other relevant knowledge.

Earlier, Director, Human Resource Management Department of the Ministry, Mrs Toyin Alade, said the induction training would equip the officers with the necessary foundation for a successful career in the Civil Service.

She noted that the ministry had engaged experienced resource persons to provide the new employees with the needed knowledge.
