The Registrar, Teachers Registration Council(TRCN), Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, says the era of teachers seeking better paid jobs will be over soon.

Ajiboye said this on Wednesday in Abuja after his reappointment by President Muhammadu Buhari to serve for the next five years as the council boss.

He said with his reappointment, efforts would be further made towards implementing all policies of government with regard to teachers’ welfare, particularly the ones recently approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ajiboye said, “we will make sure that we attract more people to the teaching profession by improving on the welfare of teachers and the process has started already.

“In fact, some people who are not teachers are now pursuing Post-Graduate Diploma in Education to become teachers, so that they can benefit from the welfare programme approved by the government.”

The TRCN boss, who expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu for his reappointment, promised to ensure the teaching profession became an enviable one.

“I want to thank President Muhammadu Buhari for reappointing me to continue with what I started in my first tenure.

“I also want to thank the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, for his support and I want to say that my reappointment is a challenge to do more or better than I did in my first tenure.

“I will do everything possible to ensure that TRCN records more achievement, particularly in the area of welfare and teacher professionalism.

“We will not rest on our oars in making sure that teachers are given their pride of place and adequately rewarded,” he said.

He also promised to rigorously pursue the issue of digitisation, to put Nigerian teachers as par with their counterparts in other climes in terms of digital literacy.

“Technology has become a handy tool for driving teaching, especially with the COVID-19 Pandemic and Nigerian teachers will not only be trained on how to use these tools for teaching but for preparing notes and other things,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that one of the major mandates of TRCN is regulation and control of the teaching profession at all levels.
