The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has appealed to commercial drivers not to be in a haste to make more money during the ember months to avoid road crashes.

The Ifo Unit Commander of FRSC, Mr Joseph Akinsanya, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun, on Monday.

The last four months of each year is tagged ember months, which comprises September, October, November and December.

Akinsanya noted that a driver that made two trips before would want to make four or five trips daily all in the desire to make more money.

“The major problem associated with the ember months is that drivers are always in a haste to make more money in anticipation of the Christmas.

“It is a misconception of the people that ember months is associated with evil, but it is not so,” he said.

The unit commander urged motorists to change their attitudes toward the culture of road use to minimise crashes.

Akinsanya advised motorists to be cautious and exercise patience as it is only the living that can celebrate festival.

He also admonished them against over speeding and wrongful overtaking to avoid mishaps during the ember months.

The commander attributed some of the road crashes which claimed the lives of innocent people across the state to impatience and excessive speeding.

He said they should remember that “a driver that takes a vehicle out and comes back safely in the evening is called a good driver, not the one that wastes the lives of innocent people to road crash.”
