NYCN Crisis :Plot to protest against peace corps establishment bill uncover
The Peace Corps of Nigeria has alleged that it has uncovered plot by Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, his Board, National Executive Council and some past leaders of the National Youth Council of Nigeria to protest at the National Assembly against it’s Establishment Bill currently pending before the assembly.
Mrs Millicent Umoru-O, the Corps Public Relations Officer made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
Umoru-O said peace corps was not perturbed by any action taken against her, adding that it was instructive to note that, Prof. Dickson Akoh was not nominated to NYCN by the corps but his
nomination was from the youth constituency in the North Central Zone.
She explained that Akoh contested and was duly elected into NYCN Board of Trustees.
” Therefore, his well-deserved nomination to represent the Zone in the Board has nothing to do with Peace Corps of Nigeria.
The National Youth Council of Nigeria being the mouthpiece of all youth organizations and the generality of Youths in the country should rather protect the interest of Nigeria youths and not do otherwise.
” The attention of the Peace Corps of Nigeria has been drawn to the plot already hatched by Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, his Board, National Executive Council and some past leaders of the National Youth Council of Nigeria who have been mobilised and sponsored into Abuja to engage lawyers with a view to meet with some legislators in the National Assembly.
” And subsequently mobilize youths to protest at the National Assembly by against the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Bill currently pending before the 9th Assembly.
” Let it be known that the Peace Corps of Nigeria have endured several institutional challenges in the last 30 years and have always emerged victorious.
” The fact remains that Peace Corps of Nigeria vis-à-vis Nigerian Peace Corps Bill is in the hands of God not in the hands of individuals or groups.
” It is however regrettable that individuals who are telling people that they have taken over the leadership of both the Board and the National Executive Council of National Youth Council of Nigeria can conspire against the Peace Corps of Nigeria, being an affiliate of National Youth Council of Nigeria or any other Youth organization, affiliated or not.
” It is a clear indication that the intention(s) of those ganging up is beyond the interest of the generality of the Nigeria youths.
” In a nation where strict adherence to the Rule of Law is observed, government institutions and individuals ought not to go against Court Orders/Judgments.
” However, there is a substantive Order by Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that Sukubo Sara-Igbe should stop parading himself as President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria and status-quo should be maintained in the council of Nigeria leadership.”
The PRO noted that the beauty of democracy was expression, if people have the power to protest, Peace Corps also have the power to make its position known via any medium.
” Having been duly informed with the fact of this matter, the leadership of the National Assembly, including the Clerk has been properly notified of the planned protest with attached evidence for their information and necessary action.
” The National Assembly as a symbol of democracy in Nigeria will always preserve democratic tenets. If they hear from any protesting group, they would also give fair hearing to those been protested against, and then the truth shall be unveiled.”
Enemies of Peace Corps have come again Peace corps is a law abiding organization with integrity. And can’t do such
By God grace Peace corps of Nigeria have come to stay.
