The traditional ruler of Uga community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, HRH Obi Chidi Stephen Ezenwugo, has expressed deep sorrow over the alleged murder of 23-year-old Miss Mmesoma Umeorini, reportedly killed by her boyfriend following a disagreement over their relationship.
Reports alleged that the suspect lured Mmesoma to his residence and strangled her after she informed him that she no longer wished to continue their relationship.
Reacting to the incident, the Obi of Uga condemned the alleged killing, describing it as a tragic loss to the community and stressing that no disagreement or grievance could justify taking another person’s life.
In a condolence statement, the monarch, speaking on behalf of the Obi-in-Council, his royal family and the entire Uga Kingdom, extended his sympathies to the deceased’s mother, family members, friends and other loved ones.
He prayed that God would grant the bereaved family the strength to bear the painful loss and grant the deceased eternal rest.
According to the monarch, the death of the young woman was a devastating loss to Uga Kingdom, noting that human life is sacred and must be protected.
He urged residents of the community, including indigenes and non-indigenes, to remain law-abiding, shun violence and embrace peaceful and responsible conduct.
Obi Ezenwugo also commended the Anambra State Police Command, the Divisional Police Officer of Umuchu Division and Agunechemba security operatives in Uga for their swift response and the arrest made in connection with the incident.
He expressed confidence that the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka would ensure a thorough investigation and the eventual administration of justice.
The monarch further appealed to youths in the community to remain calm and peaceful, warning against taking the law into their own hands.
He urged the people to allow the relevant authorities to handle the matter in accordance with the law, while reaffirming his commitment to maintaining peace and security in Uga Kingdom.
The monarch concluded by praying for continued peace and safety in the community, urging residents to pursue lawful activities and live harmoniously with one another.
