The Anambra State Government has approved plans to streamline the operations of various law enforcement groups in the state in a bid to eliminate duplication of duties, reduce conflicts and strengthen accountability.
The decision was reached at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Chukwuma Soludo at the Light House, Awka.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Dr Law Mefor, the council also approved measures concerning government lands, education, the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City (AMIC) and the state’s annual yuletide cultural programme, Onwa Dezemba.
On law enforcement, the council said the planned restructuring would address overlapping functions and the proliferation of enforcement groups, while improving their effectiveness and accountability to residents.
The government also resolved to repossess and repurpose government-owned lands currently occupied without authorisation across the state.
The decision followed reports of widespread encroachment on government properties and the need to recover the lands for public projects.
The state government consequently directed illegal occupants of government lands to vacate the properties, warning that enforcement and repossession could commence without further notice.
Meanwhile, the council announced that the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City was set to commence full operations, with prospective investors invited to engage with the government.
It identified access roads, electricity, water supply and security as some of the critical infrastructure and services being prioritised to create a conducive environment for investment in the industrial city.
In the education sector, the government approved plans to conduct integrity tests on students’ hostels in schools across the state to ascertain their structural safety.
It also announced plans to upgrade the state’s Material Testing Laboratory and strengthen the law establishing the facility to ensure reliable and professional integrity testing.
The council further disclosed plans for the 2026 edition of Onwa Dezemba, scheduled to hold in December.
The programme, introduced by the Soludo administration in December 2025, is expected to retain some of the activities from last year while introducing documentaries showcasing yuletide celebrations across communities in Anambra.
The government said it was committed to institutionalising the yuletide season as an avenue for Ndi Anambra at home and in the diaspora to reconnect and participate in cultural and social activities across the state.
