The National Coordinator, At Risk Children – Project (ARC-P), Mrs Maryam Uwais, said the Federal Government was working to rehabilitate drug addicts across the country.
Uwais said this in her keynote address during a two-day stakeholders enlightenment on, “addressing and implementing sustainable programmes for At-Risk Children and Young Adults” in Kaduna on Tuesday.

According to her, there are various groups of youths engaging in substance abuse and required help of stakeholders to leave the bad habit which leads to negative act.

” For many of the drug addicts, their parents drove them out of the house and they try to survive.

I think it’s time that government begin to intervene in their lives”, she said.

The national coordinator further said that under the ARC-P programme, youths would be trained in Information and Communication Technology.

She said that the youths would also be trained on agriculture, entrepreneurial and financial literacy; digital and mental skills; child rights and mentorship; ARC-P national goals as well as monitoring, evaluation and reporting.

She urged the state government and stakeholders participating in the training to support the needy and assured that the Federal Government and development agencies would also intervene.
“We will bring the Federal Government , development partners that are very supportive like UNICEF, UNDP and Islamic Development Bank.

They are all key to see how they can support us to make the life of the children more meaningful” Uwais said.
She however, decried the abuse of training tools by some beneficiaries due to poverty. (NAN)
