The management of FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State to create more opportunities for corps members and promote youth development.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the company’s management team to the NYSC State Coordinator in Awka on Wednesday.
The delegation was led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FirstPower, Engr. Okechukwu Okafor, and included the Chief Technical Officer, Engr. Dr. Emeka Egbujor; Chief Commercial Officer, Dr. Priscilla Obi; Head of Human Resources, Mrs. Oge Morah; and the Head of Communications.
Speaking during the visit, Okafor said the engagement was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between FirstPower and the NYSC while seeking increased deployment of corps members, particularly graduates with relevant professional qualifications, to the electricity distribution company.
He explained that FirstPower, which serves as the electricity distribution company for Anambra State, is undergoing transformation to improve service delivery while remaining committed to customer satisfaction and reliable electricity supply.
According to him, the company is one of the major employers of labour in Anambra State and the South-East, offering young graduates opportunities to gain practical industry experience.
He disclosed that FirstPower is particularly interested in corps members with backgrounds in engineering, electrical and electronics, law, accounting and other related disciplines, noting that greater deployment of such graduates would help address manpower needs while equipping them with practical skills for future careers in the power sector.
Okafor also identified areas for future collaboration between the company and the NYSC, including technical training, capacity building, community development projects, energy awareness campaigns, innovation initiatives and professional mentorship programmes.
He assured the NYSC management that FirstPower would continue to provide a conducive working environment that would enable corps members to acquire practical experience and contribute meaningfully during their service year.
Responding, the Anambra State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, commended FirstPower for its commitment to youth development and its willingness to engage more corps members.
She described the company as a strategic organisation capable of providing valuable practical exposure, especially for graduates in technical and specialised fields.
Ojisua stressed the importance of corps members’ welfare and urged organisations hosting them to continue providing safe and supportive working environments that would enable them to maximise the objectives of the National Youth Service Corps programme.
She also appealed to FirstPower to explore ways of improving electricity supply to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Anambra ahead of the commencement of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Orientation Course scheduled for August 4. She noted that stable electricity would enhance camp administration and improve the overall experience of corps members.
The NYSC coordinator expressed optimism that the relationship between both organisations would continue to grow through sustained collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
The visit concluded with an exchange of memorabilia between the management of FirstPower and the NYSC as a symbol of their commitment to a stronger and mutually beneficial partnership.
