The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing a significant challenge as prominent opposition figures converge under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) banner. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami have thrown their weight behind the coalition, signaling a potential game-changer in Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Malami’s decision to leave the APC was driven by concerns over the country’s worsening socio-economic and security challenges. In his statement, he cited the rising insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria, saying, “Nigeria is bleeding. Insecurity has taken over our homes.”
The coalition, backed by prominent Nigerians, aims to create a strong opposition force capable of challenging the APC’s dominance in the 2027 general elections. With Malami’s defection, the ADC is poised to play a key role in this coalition.
Aluta News has learned that several high-profile Nigerians are secretly backing a coalition aimed at toppling the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Insiders reveal that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Nasiru El-Rufai, Rotimi Amechi, David Mark, and Rauf Aregbesola are among those supporting the movement.
The coalition’s primary goal is to create a strong opposition force capable of challenging the APC’s dominance in the 2027 general elections. According to Dele Momodu, a prominent media entrepreneur and political strategist, “The same coalition strategy that brought APC to power in 2015 is what the opposition must now adopt to take back Nigeria”.
Some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed willingness to join a broader coalition to unseat the APC. The Kebbi State PDP chairman, Dr. Ibrahim Mera, stated that the party is open to supporting any political alliance that can effectively challenge the APC’s dominance,
As the coalition’s plans unfold, Nigerians are eagerly watching for developments that could shape the country’s political landscape. Will this coalition succeed in uniting the opposition, or will internal conflicts and power struggles hinder its progress? Only time will tell ,
