Kano State Government has incorporated the traditional institutions in the state into its development policies and programmes to facilitate the socio-economic needs of the people.
The government stated that the move became imperative following the consolidation of the four new Emirates in the state, which was created by the Ganduje administration.
Kano Commissioner and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba made this known in a statement on Thursday.
Garba was reacting to a plan allegedly being hatched by the opposition New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to sack the new Emirs in the state, if it wins the 2023 general elections.
He, however, noted that the new Emirates were created to make the traditional institutions to stand the test of time and ensure growth and development reaches the rural populace.
He said the All Progressives Congress (APC) government has already made the monarchs stakeholders in the implementation of its development agenda.
The commissioner stated that the APC government had also initiated the Emirates to its various development programmes such as health, agriculture, youth and women economic empowerment, as well as Free and Compulsory Basic and Secondary Education.
Other areas, Garba added include scholarship programmes and various human development initiatives embarked by the present administration in the state.
He further explained that the unprecedented development in Kano ignites the administration’s desire to support the development of mini cities in the state to complement the emergence of Kano metropolis as a Mega City.
This, Garba also noted has witnessed growth and development in the headquarters of the new Emirates and its surrounding towns and villages.
“Apart from the construction and upgrading of four health centres fitted with modern facilities in the Emirates headquarters in Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye, there is also the construction of road networks, and private sector participation in the new Emirates.
“Banks, entrepreneurs and medium and small-scale industries have made huge presence, while others have pledged to undertake development programmes in the form of Corporate Social Responsibility,” the statement added.
