CIVIL SOCIETY COUNCIL HAILS HISTORIC BREAKTHROUGH: Port Harcourt Refinery Roars Back to Life!

The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria has welcomed the commencement of operations at the Port Harcourt refinery, a significant milestone in the country’s economic recovery. This achievement is a testament to President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to reforming and transforming the petroleum sector.
The council commended the leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), particularly the Board led by Chief Pius Akinyelure and the Management team led by Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari. Their tireless efforts have culminated in the successful restart of operations at the refinery.
This development marks a crucial step towards Nigeria’s energy self-sufficiency and reduced reliance on foreign imports. As the refinery resumes crude oil processing, it is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s economy and energy security.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday in Abuja Executive Director, National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN), Blessing Akinlosotu said the resumption of operations at PHRC is a landmark achievement, poised to yield far-reaching benefits for Nigeria’s Economy and Energy Security.
According to Akinlosotu, by re-streaming the refinery, NNPC Ltd has fulfilled its promise, with the first loading of petroleum products from the refinery after years of unsuccessful attempts.
“This feat heralds a new era in Nigeria’s Energy Sector, marking a giant stride towards self-sufficiency in petroleum production and a substantial reduction in reliance on foreign imports,” Akinlosotu said.
Akinlosotu however urged the NNPCL to work tirelessly towards the resumption of production at the Kaduna and Warri Refineries, adding that this will further boost Nigeria’s refining capacity and reduce reliance on imported Petroleum Products.
He said: “The Council reaffirms our commitment to collaborating with the Government, NNPC Ltd., and other stakeholders to ensure a bright and sustainable Energy future for Nigeria.
“We heartily congratulate all Nigerians on this remarkable achievement, while commending the tireless efforts of the NNPC Ltd Board led by Chief Pius Akinyelure, and the visionary Group Chief Executive Officer, Mallam Mele Kyari, that have been highly instrumental in revitalizing the Port Harcourt Refinery.
“Let us take this opportunity to urge the general public to appreciate and acknowledge the progress and development of our great nation, as the age-old adage reminds us, ‘Rome was not built in a day.’ This wise saying encourages us to be more patient and recognise that meaningful transformation takes time.
“We equally enjoin critics to ensure that their criticisms are factual, constructive, and geared towards fostering positive change.
