The Director General of the former Inspector General of Police(IGP), Mohammed Adamu, governorship Campaign Council, Mr Abdullahi Yammani, has reaffirmed that the council would run an issue-based campaign focused on peace, stability and development of Nasarawa State.
Yammani stated this in Lafia during an interface with the campaign structure from zonal to local government levels.
He said the meeting was convened to interface with party structures and to pass key messages of a peaceful campaign to supporters ahead of the 2027 governorship election campaign.
Yammani said that peace was critical to progress and to the conduct of the 2027 general elections in Nasarawa State.
He noted that the slogan of the campaign council is “Nasarawa State First,” before any other consideration, so we cannot afford to do anything that would jeopardise the relative peace in the state.
“Our campaign will be issue-based. It will be devoid of insults and antagonising. Our focus is on how to move Nasarawa State forward,” he said.
“We have told our people to stay peacefully among themselves; they should conduct our campaign in an orderly manner and in line with the laws of the land and electoral guidelines as established by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),” he said.
Speaking on the growing momentum behind the former IGP, Adamu, he said it was due to his track record in public service.
“To be honest, looking at his track record, he was an Inspector General of Police. He was the first African to become Deputy Chairman of Interpol and the first Nigerian to head the African Mission of Interpol.
“Without bias, he is the best person to move Nasarawa State forward,’ he added.
He said that during Adamu’s tenure as IGP, several police infrastructure projects and secondary schools were established in Nasarawa State.
Yammani commended the humanitarian efforts of Adamu and his wife, Hajia Rukaiyat, and noted that she was the first among wives of governorship aspirants to reach out to the grassroots in terms of empowerment.
“They have fed people and helped those in need, not because of politics, but out of humanity. I believe the support they are receiving now is what God is paying back to them. God willing, he will become the next Governor of Nasarawa State,” he said.
The campaign council DG described the support base of the former IGP Adamu in the rural areas as the strongest in Nasarawa State.
He appealed to journalists to report objectively and professionally during the campaign as the council awaits the Independent National Electoral Commission to lift the embargo on governorship campaigns. (NAN)
