A 27-year-old man, Emmanuel Tochukwu, who allegedly threatened to pour acid on a girl, on Friday appeared at an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Tochukwu, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on threatening violence, breach of peace and forcible entrance.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 12, at No. 10, Godwill St., Isheri, Lagos.

According to Aigbokhan, the defendant forcibly entered the house of the complainant, one Miss Christiana Okoye, by breaking the iron gate in the house.

“The defendant unlawfully entered the house of the complainant and threatened to pour acid on the young girl,” the prosecutor said.

He said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

Aigbokhan said the offences contravened section 52, 56(1), 168 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. 23 for mention.
