The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on Wednesday, appeared in the same clothes he wore on Tuesday after a Federal High Court order.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Binta Nyako had, on Tuesday, ordered that the Department of State Services (DSS) should ensure that Kanu change his clothes, after his counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome, complained that his client had not been allowed to change clothes since his arrest.
However, the IPOB leader, who arrived in the courtroom at about 10. 08am, was dressed in the same attire as security men led him into the court.
NAN reports that Ozekhome had alleged that Kanu had been wearing the same cloth since he was detained in the DSS detention.
Justice Nyako then asked an officer of the security outfit who led the team to the court if it was true, but the officer denied the allegation.
However, Kanu, who spoke from the dock, had insisted that he has worn the same cloth since his arrest.
Nyako then ordered that Kanu should be allowed to change his clothes by the next adjourned date and that he should also be allowed to exercise.
Besides, she said adequate healthcare should be given to the defendant since only a person living could be prosecuted.
NAN reports that the Federal Government, through the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), had, on Monday, filed an amended 15-count charge bordering on terrorism against Kanu, contrary to the earlier charge of seven-count which bordered on treasonable felony and filed on Oct. 20, 2021.
Nyako had fixed today (Wednesday) for Kanu’s re-arraignment, following Ozekhome’s objection to the AGF’s request for the defendant to take his plea on the fresh charges on Tuesday, on the ground that the application was not served on the defence promptly. .
