AUPCTRE backs JUSUN, PASAN, ASUP strike, urges Govt. to urgently accede demands

The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees ( AUPCTRE), has backed the on-going strike embarked on by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Parliamentary Staff Union of Nigeria (PASAN) and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics ( ASUP).

AUPCTRE has also urged the federal and state governments to urgently accede to the unions’ demands.

Comrade Sikiru Waheed General Secretary of AUPCTRE, who made the association’s position known in a statement on Sunday, in Abuja, expressed solidarity with the striking workers.

Waheed said JUSUN’s action was based on the constitutionally approved autonomy for the judiciary, while that of PASAN was premised on the financial autonomy for the legislative arm of government.

He further explained ASUP’s action noting that it was as a result of lack of adequate funding of tertiary education and payment of backlog of salaries owed the lecturers.

He said AUPCTRE was giving its total support to the demands and actions of the three Unions because they were justified and not unpatriotic.

”This union salutes the courage of members of these Unions for their steadfastness with their leaders,’’ Waheed said.
