Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has declared that he is targeting 50 per cent of the state’s votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Soludo made the declaration on Friday, November 6, 2026, during the flag-off of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) 2027 campaign at Ekwueme Square, Awka.
The governor announced that APGA would not present a presidential candidate in the forthcoming election, disclosing that the party had adopted President Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as its preferred choice.
Addressing the gathering, Soludo said, “Today, we adopt the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as our candidate.”
He explained that the decision was based on what he described as Tinubu’s show of concern and support for the Igbo people, particularly Anambra State. He recalled that during Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos State, several people of Anambra origin were appointed to strategic positions in his administration.
Soludo also noted that APGA had supported presidential candidates from other political parties in previous elections, describing the adoption of Tinubu as a continuation of the party’s established political arrangement.
According to the governor, Anambra State recorded fewer than 5,000 votes for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election. However, he maintained that the President had continued to demonstrate commitment to addressing some of the challenges confronting Anambra and the wider South-East region.
“We gave him only about 5,000 votes, and yet he is doing wonderful works in the state,” Soludo said.
The governor urged Ndi Anambra to rally behind Tinubu in 2027, arguing that supporting the President would provide the South-East with a stronger political platform to engage the Federal Government and negotiate for the region’s development.
He stressed that the state needed to build a stronger relationship with the government at the centre to attract greater attention to its developmental needs.
“We need to vote for him in order to sit with the government at the centre and negotiate for the development of the South-East and Anambra State,” he said.
Soludo reaffirmed his determination to mobilise support for Tinubu, declaring that his administration and APGA were targeting 50 per cent of the votes in Anambra State for the President in the 2027 general election.
