The Katsina State Government has recorded another major milestone in its drive to expand access to clean and sustainable energy with the successful completion of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Geotechnical Survey for the 1MW Danja Mini Hydropower Project.

The development was disclosed following a strategic review meeting between the Special Adviser to the Governor on Power and Energy, Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed, and representatives of the French Embassy, during which the implementation of the project, co-financed by the French Treasury, was assessed.

The completion of both technical studies marks a significant stage in the project’s development, providing the environmental, social and engineering framework required for the successful execution of the hydropower facility. It also reflects the Katsina State Government’s commitment to delivering infrastructure through careful planning, professional diligence and strict compliance with international best practices.

Under the leadership of Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, the administration has continued to prioritize quality project preparation over hurried execution. This deliberate approach is designed to safeguard public investment, minimize implementation risks and ensure that every infrastructure project delivers lasting value to the people of Katsina State.

Upon completion, the Danja Mini Hydropower Project will provide clean and reliable electricity to communities, support agricultural and industrial activities, stimulate rural economic development, create employment opportunities and strengthen the State’s renewable energy capacity.

The Katsina State Government expresses profound appreciation to the French Treasury for its invaluable support and co-financing of the project, as well as the French Embassy for its continued partnership and constructive engagement. The collaboration further reflects the confidence of international partners in the State’s transparent governance and development agenda.
